Djurskyddet Sverige (Animal Welfare Sweden) has about 13 000 members and 61 local branches spread all over the country. Our vision is that all animals should be able to act their natural way and that the welfare of animals should improve. We want all humans to show respect and take responsibility for all animals. We accept that people use animals for food, company or other purposes, but we do not accept that people make use of animals in a way that make them suffer.
Many of our local branches have their own nursing homes for cats and other animals that for any reason have lost their homes. We give guidance to people concerning how to take care of animals and how to help an animal in need and we work in schools to teach children how to treat animals. But we also work politically in order to change the situation for many animals. We organize campaigns, lobby on politicians, participate as experts in different committees and write articles to newspapers.
We are members of the European umbrella Eurogroup for animals and the International organization WSPA.
